I'm Tapped - Some Words of Encouragement for Moms on their Worst Days

I had a different blog post planned, but honestly, I'm tapped. We got some news this weekend that sent our family into not our normal routine. We'll be unsettled this week, and on top of trying to stay on top of my business, my kids' needs, and PMDD week (more on that in a future post), I have been emotionally and physically overwhelmed, as has my husband.

Yesterday, I had a migraine, which throws a wrench into things. It's hard enough to do what needs to be done on a normal day, much less one when so much else is on my plate. I wanted to stay in bed. I wanted to ignore it all and pretend it was just another migraine day.

Instead, I had to make choices. Now, I'm overwhelmed by decision fatigue and visual clutter as we do everything that needs to be done. I feel like it's hopeless, everything won't get done.

But, the reality is, I've felt this before. And everything ends up okay. Maybe not how we think or plan, but it does end up okay.

When we as moms get super overwhelmed and can't get out of bed or can't do what needs to be done, we feel the added weight of guilt for our families and that we are supposed to be able to do it all (see my post about societal expectations and my post about having it all without doing it all).

Today, I'm choosing not to do it all. Because, the truth is, our reality is made up of choices we make, and the way we show up and experience resilience has a lot to do with what we repeatedly let our brain believe.

So, let me share some Encouragement & Affirmations for moms on their worst days.

  1. The best I can do today is just enough.
  2. My love is the love my children need to blossom
  3. I am resilient and capable of overcoming hard things.
  4. In my child's eyes and heart, I am a good mom.
  5. I can learn to see myself as my children do.
  6. Everything I do serves a purpose for my family - even rest.
  7. I am worthy of self-compassion and grace.
  8. Every day is a chance to start again.

Some scriptures those who are believers might find encouraging on their hard days of motherhood:

  1. Isaiah 41:10 - "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  2. Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
  3. Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
  4. Psalm 139:14 - "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
  5. Proverbs 31:25 - "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
  6. Isaiah 66:13 - "As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you..."
  7. Proverbs 31:28 - "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."
  8. 1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

My hope is, when you need to remind your brain to dwell on your strengths, these affirmations and Bible verses give you something to focus on. These words give you encouragement on your hardest days and you are able to give yourself the grace you deserve.
